No Prep Kings Feels the Aftershock of Lizzy Musi’s Second Consecutive Win

Team NOLA racer bumps Kayla Morton into third place, sits only five points behind Ryan Martin.

The Street Outlaws' No Prep Kings championship was shaken up in Madison, Illinois this week, as Team NOLA continued its climb to the top of the leaderboard. Lizzy Musi, driving the Aftershock Camaro, had racers from Oklahoma and Texas quaking in their suits. The New Orleans bombshell secured her second consecutive win for the team, taking home another trophy, $40,000 in cash, and enough points to send Ryan Martin seeking shelter in the aftermath.

Amongst the seismic activity, Justin “Big Chief” Shearer flew The Crow into the event. Chief competed in the season’s first Race-Your-Way-In invitational and managed to pull enough power out of his Pontiac to secure a spot alongside B-Rad, Monza and Boosted.

“Everybody who says that I don’t deserve to be here can now shut up,” Chief said. “I have earned my spot, I’m in the invitational, and I’m going to get to race side-by-side with all the s***-talkers for $40,000.”

The first round went dead silent during callouts, and Big Chief drew Jerry Bird for lucky race #13. The two racers previously competed against each other at Street Outlaws: Bristol for a $100K pot, where Chief put it down. And he put it down again in Illinois. Daddy Dave tore up Goliath’s motor during testing the night before, so Team 405 rallied to put Ryan Martin’s spare motor into Goliath. Despite a valiant effort, Daddy Dave got swept by NOLA’s Scott Taylor. Ryan Martin spooked Birdman in the first found, sending him off the track and into the wall.

Round three brought an incredible round of match-ups, pitting the best of NOLA against the best of Oklahoma and Texas, and granting them a solid shot at shaking up the leaderboard. The biggest race of the night saw Lizzy Musi side-by-side with Big Chief. Unfortunately for Team 405, Chief lost control of The Crow and lost the round to Musi’s nitrous-powered Camaro. Mike Murillo took the win against Scott Taylor, keeping Team Texas in the semi-finals.

Despite having a doubled opportunity to secure a place in the finals, Ryan Martin and Jeff Lutz both drew #1 chips in round four. Martin took a bumper off Lutz and went on to compete in the finals again. Lizzy kept NOLA in-tact against No Prep Kings season two champion Mike Murillo.

Under pressure against the Aftershock, Ryan Martin’s engine blew in the last moments of the final race, and granted Lizzy Musi her second consecutive event win. Musi’s impressive performance this season has pushed miles beyond her first attempts at the series, as not only the last woman standing twice in a row, but the last racer standing in New Hampshire and Illinois. If there’s any combination to watch this season, it’s Musi and the Aftershock Camaro.

Round 5 Finals

  1. Ryan Martin vs Lizzy Musi

“We freakin’ took their heads off again!” Musi exclaimed after her monumental win. “These guys are bad to the bone. When you’re racing against the other guy in the other lane, they’re willing to take your head off. It’s like a battle out there, no lie.”

Next week the racers head to Idaho for another throwdown at Firebird Raceway.
