Liquid Treasure: Cocktail Recipes from Josh Gates Tonight
Ahoy adventurers! It's five o' clock somewhere...
The Machu Picchu
The cocktail ‘Machu Picchu’ was created to pay tribute to the Inca City and Wonder of the World, the most visited tourist destination in Peru. Currently, Machu Picchu receives approximately 1.5 million visitors from all over the planet per year.
Preparation
- Step 1: Pour ice cubes along a whole long glass or pear cup.
- Step 2: Add grenadine to the glass with ice.
- Step 3: Slowly add orange juice to form two layers of different colors in the cup.
- Step 4: In a different bowl mix mint with pisco.
- Step 5: Finally, pour the mixed mint with pisco to a long glass, in such a way that 3 layers of different colors are formed.
The Davy Jones Locker
Ahoy! It's time for a drink with a total element of surprise. Grab your best buddies and pour up the Davy Jones Locker to get into the true spirit of Josh Gates' underwater adventures!
Preparation
- Step 1: In a shaker add 2 oz of aged rum, 1.4 oz of Fernet Branca, ¼ oz of lime juice, 1 oz of fresh grapefruit juice, and ½ oz of cinnamon bark syrup.
- Step 2: Shake and then strain into a nautical-themed glass.
- Step 3: Garnish with a tentacle.
The Isaac
A sitcom inspired cocktail? What's not to love! The "Isaac" is inspired by Ted Lange's performance in The Love Boat, an American classic.
Preparation
- Step 1: Pour ice cubes in a glass.
- Step 2: Add in white rum.
- Step 3: Then, add in pomegranate.
- Step 4: To cut the sweetness of the syrup, add half an ounce of lime juice.
- Step 5: Shake, don't stir!
- Step 5: Pour over a fresh cup of ice, add club soda, a squeeze of lime and two pineapple leaves.
The Bloody Mary
The Bloody Mary is one of the world’s best known cocktails, prized for its ability to jumpstart even the groggiest of mornings. More recently, the Bloody Mary has inspired a garnish-based arms race, as restaurants and bars top their drinks with more insane garnishes, including bacon, shrimp skewers, lobster tails and mini cheeseburgers, turning the Bloody Mary into its own brunch!
Preparation
- Step 1: Pour some celery salt onto a small plate.
- Step 2: Rub the juicy side of a lemon or lime wedge along the lip of a pint glass.
- Step 3: Roll the outer edge of the glass in celery salt until fully coated, then fill a glass with ice and set aside.
- Step 4: Squeeze lemon and lime wedges into a shaker and drop them in.
- Step 5: Add vodka, tomato juice, horseradish, Tabasco, Worcestershire, black pepper, paprika, plus a pinch of celery salt along with ice and shake gently.
- Step 6: Strain into the prepared glass.
- Step 7: Garnish with a parsley sprig, 2 speared green olives, a lime wedge and a celery stalk (optional).

- Step 1: Fill a cocktail shaker one-quarter full with ice.
- Step 2: Add Jack Daniel’s whiskey, Scotch, Cognac, and limoncello.
- Step 3: Using a bar spoon, stir in a figure-8 motion for 5 seconds.
- Step 4: Strain into a highball glass with one large ice cube.
- Step 5: Garnish with a lemon wedge.

The Treasure Chest Cocktail
Avast me hearties - 'tis the Treasure Chest, a libation fit for a pirate!
Preparation
Step 1: In a mixing glass, combine lime, orange and pineapple juice.
Step 2: Add vanilla liqueur, triple sec, bitters and rum.
Step 3: Pour into a 20oz or larger vessel filled with ice and top off with champagne and soda.
Step 4: Be sure to share with your first mate!
The Reggie's Revenge Cocktail
Inspired by the snake named Reggie beholden by Indiana Jones, let's make the Reggie's Revenge!
Preparation
Step 1: Add ingredients to an ice filled shaker.
Step 2: Give it a healthy shake and pour into a hurricane glass.
Step 3: Garnish with a long, snake-shaped orange peel.
The Shark's Tooth Cocktail
It's time to get tropical! Test out the Shark's Tooth from Beachbum Berry’s Grog Log.
Preparation
Step 1: Put everything – except dark Jamaican rum – in a blender.
Step 2: Blend for 5 seconds.
Step 3: Pour into an old fashioned or tiki glass.
Step 4: Serve the Jamaican rum in a shot glass to be poured into the drink.
Bathtub Gin Cocktail
This Prohibition-inspired beverage is sure to be your new favorite!
Preparation
Step 1: Combine ingredients.
Step 2: Shake until the egg white is frothy.
Step 3: Add ice and shake until chilled.
Step 4: Pour into your vessel of choice (Josh used a miniature bathtub and garnished with a rubber ducky).
Step 5: Top off with 3oz of elderflower tonic.
