Destination: Thwaites Glacier, Antarctica
Expedition: Dr. Jamin Greenbaum has teamed up with a group of South Korean scientists and together they plan to use their icebreaker to not only reach Thwaites Glacier, but to study it in a new way. They’ll be using a helicopter to strategically drop sensor probes into the water around the glacier to measure the water’s temperature and salinity from the surface to the seafloor. Greenbaum believes that freshwater hidden deep beneath the glacier might be speeding up the melting process. This mission plans to accomplish numerous world’s firsts while investigating this icy mystery in one of the most remote and beautiful places on planet Earth.
