Meet Georgia Aquarium’s two love birds, Charlie and Lizzy!
Charlie and Lizzy have been pair-bonded for almost 28 years!
Charlie is 36 and Lizzy is almost 35; her birthday is in March.
African penguins tend to live longer in human care. They typically live to about 10-15 years in the wild.
Georgia Aquarium’s trainers take penguins for walks around the Aquarium as a form of enrichment.
They have celebrated so many birthdays together with delicious ice cakes.
In addition to being pair-bonded, they haven’t hatched their own chicks, but they have been amazing foster parents to multiple chicks.
Penguins can show affection through head shakes and vocalizations towards each other.
It looks like Charlie and Lizzy love going on adventures together and staring at all the fish!
Penguins can sometimes be seen preening, or grooming, each other.
Not all penguins bond for life but these two definitely have!
