Join some of the dolphins at Georgia Aquarium in celebrating Dolphin Awareness Month!

These animals aren’t just picture perfect; they are also highly intelligent.

Common bottlenose dolphins are well-known for their acrobatic stunts and social behavior.

A dolphins’ skin is highly specialized and serves as an important sensory organ. Their outer layer of skin is shed about every two hours to increase swimming efficiency and maintain a smooth body surface.

These beautiful marine animals are known for being curious and playful, which unfortunately makes them vulnerable to hunting and fishing.

Georgia Aquarium’s animal trainers have a special bond with their dolphins. Daily training and regular enrichment sessions are key in growing that relationship.

Enrichment items for Georgia Aquarium’s dolphins include balls, hoops, and bubbles!

Adult common bottlenose dolphins routinely swim at speeds of about 3-7 mph. However, they can swim at speeds up to 18 mph for short bursts.

Not just another pretty smile – these dolphins have between 72-104 teeth.
