A Look at the Life of Bo Obama
Former US President Barack Obama and his family said goodbye to their beloved Portuguese water dog, Bo, who passed away from cancer May 8. He was 12-years-old.
Bo joined the Obama family in 2009, after the President promised his daughters, Sasha and Maila, a puppy following his 2008 election. Bo was the first of two family pets, with another Portugeuse water dog, Sunny, joining the Obamas in 2013.
"As a family, we will miss Bo dearly," said former First Lady Michelle Obama on Instagram. "But we are thankful that he lived such a joyful life full of snuggles, games of fetch, and evenings spent lying on the couch."
During his time at the White House, Bo was a constant fixture at various events, meeting everyone from schoolchildren to dignitaries like Oprah Winfrey and Pope Francis.
"For more than a decade, Bo was a constant, gentle presence in our lives—happy to see us on our good days, our bad days, and everyday in between," Obama wrote on Twitter.

We bet Bo couldn't believe the size of the yard that came with his new home. The Obamas were said to be attracted to the Portuguese water dogs, given that the breed is good for individuals with alleriges.
